What is Oblivion Cinema & Arts?
Oblivion Cinema & Arts is an independent art supply store, creative studio, and gallery, as well as an occasional microcinema and a perennial third space.
wait, THAT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT—What does that even mean?
During the our standard operation hours, Oblivion Cinema & Arts functions as a third space workspace and art supply store. Think of it as the official, unofficial annex of our neighboring Roscoe’s Coffee Bar & Tap Room—patrons are welcome to carry over food and beverages and set up shop at our tables and couches. With free WIFI, cozy seating, communal resources, and good vibes, Oblivion is designed to accommodate everyone from students, start-up teams, solo remote workers, to working artists. We encourage folks of all backgrounds to gather and create in the space, free of judgement.
To support our workspace, we sell new and gently used art supplies, as well as prints and originals of works created by local artists. We also host workshops, classes, gatherings, and screenings in our 20 seater micro-cinema during the evenings and on weekends. Oblivion can also be rented for parties, pop-up vending, DIY shows and concerts, meetings, and more.
Our offerings range from fine arts classes, such as live figure drawing sessions and oil painting workshops, to DIY and free-form gatherings, like our zine-making gatherings and biweekly collage potluck.
Our monthly workshop schedule is posted shortly before the start of each month and can be found on our Facebook page, Instagram, and in person at our shop.
Each week, we post updated micro schedules to highlight upcoming events on deck. Full listings are adding in single posts and as event listings through our Facebook Events Page
If a class is ever added or removed from the schedule, we always make an effort to notify our community immediately and add notes to previous posts.
Classes and workshops are priced on a case by case basis. The majority of our standard programming offerings are run on pay-what-you-can or sliding scale basis. We believe that art should be accessible for folks of all financial backgrounds and skill levels.
Unless otherwise stated on our calendar and events listings, workshops do not require preregistration. For workshops requiring registration, patrons can visit our booking page to learn more and sign up.
Yes! Most of our standard classes are all ages friendly—if there is a suggested or mandated age restriction, it will be clearly noted in the class listing. We kindly ask that parents of younger artists, especially those under the age of 16, are accompanied to all ages workshops.
We also host our weekly Young Creatives (Ages 12-17) Workshop series each Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.*At this time, this group is at its participant threshold; we are currently working to develop more structured, designated programs for younger artists.*
